Did anyone watch PTI last night? Pudge reported 22 pounds lighter....and Jose did implicate him as being a "user" and Jose said he injected Pudge before
He better get raped by the media for reporting that much lighter....Giambi got killed for losing the weight last year....media had a field day with it.
So....for Pudge's sake...he better produce at the plate....because the verdict is already in I think....and Canseco might be gaining some cred.....is that possible?!?

Ever wonder how fights start in baseball? True, fights usually start with an obvious fast ball to the hitter's ear but in a game between the Sawks and Yanks last year, a witty comment ignited the now infamous DORA- Varitek brawl. Bronson Arroyo threw a fastball behind the head of DORA (A-rod) who, in turn, proceeded to verbally assault the Sawk pitcher. According to the NY Daily News:

Catcher Jason Varitek responded by yelling at A-Rod, "Hey! We
don't throw at .260 hitters. Shut the fuck up and take your base." That
precipitated a brawl in which Varitek shoved his mitt into Rodriguez's telegenic
mug.

Probably the call of 2004. Or was it? Romeo Crennel, the Teddy Bear Coach, had a confusing quote. Not exactly sure what he's getting at but I think he was high:

"The things you can't control you have no control over," the new head coach said
Tuesday. "And don't try and control what you can't control because you have
no control over it." Editor's Note: What the fuck is he talking about?

That's OK, but sports already has one Yogi Berra. This was submitted to me by the Truth and this definately deserves consideration. Upon witnessing a Ted Ginn punt return, the Ohio State colour man described it with a great one-liner:

"He just ran through that Michigan State punt coverage like Mexican water
running through the body of a first time tourist"

All the calls are good, but the call of 2004 has to be this one.

Everyone Hates A-Rod, Loves Giambi

That-a-boy Trot! The Red Sox and Yankee rivalry got an early start when Trot Nixon ripped into DORA (for those of you who don't know, that's A-Rod backwards and seems to be a more fitting name). Trot said:

"I don't look at him as [a Yankee]. He might be in a lot of people's eyes," Nixon
said. "He's done some great things on the field. He's one of the best baseball
players in the game and probably will be when it's all said and done.
"But
when people ask me about the Yankees, I tell them about (Derek) Jeter and Bernie
Williams and (Jorge) Posada. I don't tell them about Rodriguez. ... He can't
stand up to Jeter in my book or Bernie Williams or Posada."

Being a Sox fan, I have to disagree with Trot and say that A-Rod is the typical Yankee: a highly-paid, under-performing, idiot in pinstripes.
Trot also said that he supports Giambi with his recent 'roids confession... um, or non-confession. This supports my belief (check out Feb. 10th, 2005) that most people in baseball would support Giambi in this because he's the only one out of a shady cast of characters to repent for his 'roid use. Here is a good article on how other Yanks are supporting Giambi.

NHL May Be Back On

I know I am a Canadian, but I have to say... I really don't care. The only hockey I care about is playoff hockey, and I can live without it as long as I have March Madness, Spring Training in Baseball, the NFL combine and draft, and of course, the NBA. The fact that I can watch that much sports as is, is a scientific marvel!

Apparently the NHL has taken linking of revenue off the table, and the NHLPA was the first to propose a salary cap. So I ask you, WHY NOW? Talk about a F&$#'in waste of time!

The finally offer is on the table from the NHL. It's a 42.5 million dollar cap, and the NHLPA originally proposed a 52 million dollar cap. The deadline is set at 11 am tomorrow, and the Commish has a 1pm press conference no matter what. So either they take it or leave it.

Malone Finally Gives Up!

Knowing that Karl Malone has to retire without a championship ring some how makes me feel so much better about life! In 2001, Malone was voted as the dirtest player in the NBA with his teammate John Stockton coming in 3rd. Karl Malone is known for being the cheapest player in the NBA with his flopping, and elbowing. I can honestly say that no one deserves a championship ring less than Karl Malone.

Only Malone has this kind of class to go "there".

Here is are just a couple of Dr. Elbows finer moments in the NBA:

Malone shoved his way to a rebound, and when Mavs' Steve Nash tried to steal the ball, Malone crushed an elbow to the slender guard's face, bloodying him and nearly breaking off a tooth. As Gil Lebreton wrote in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Malone "remains his usual nasty, elbow-slinging self." Nash received two stitches.

In 98' David Robinson was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion after being hit in the head by one of Karl Malone's elbows. As Malone turned toward the basket, his left elbow caught Robinson on the right side of the head. Robinson immediately dropped to the floor, without breaking his fall with his hands or arms. Robinson was was called for a foul on the play!

When Karl Malone was still in college, he threw an elbow that sent Rice center Dave Ramer to the hospital and ended his career. Malone had gone up for a rebound and came down swinging his elbows. Ramer was unfortunate enough to be in the same area code. The blow shattered Ramer's cheekbone, and he went down screaming in pain. Malone just looked at him and walked away.

In 1991, Isiah Thomas was driving to the basket and Karl Malone "went for the ball" but somehow managed to hit Isiah's face so hard with an "unintentional" elbow that Thomas had to be carries from the court and required plastic surgery and forty stitches.

In 1999, yet another player had to be carried from the court needing plastic surgery after a run in with Malone. Fortunately, this time Malone only broke Joe Kleine's nose.

Keep in mind that this is only a couple of incidents. Karl's career is littered with them. Make no mistake, Karl Malone is the BIGGEST ASSHOLE on the planet and everyone should be happy his truck driving ass is now GONE!

In Today's Where Are They Now News: Ryan Leaf

Ryan Leaf is enrolled this semester at Washington State in a sports management class called Media Relations. Apparently Ryan Leaf is learning the things you do and don't do in an interview. Obviously this is a class he did not take before entering the NFL. Ryan Leaf once verbally harassed beat writer Jay Posner to the point where teammate Junior Seau was forced to restrain him.

The scene was the 1998 NFL draft. The top two picks were to be quarterbacks with Peyton Manning of Tennesse, and Ryan Leaf of Washington State entering the draft. Both QB's were sure fire bets. With the first overall pick the Colts took Peyton Manning. The Chargers jumped at the opportunity to draft Leaf; they had moved up in the draft by trading two first round picks, a second round pick and three time All Pro safety Eric Metcalf to get their golden boy. The Chargers then signed him to a lucrative long term contract, with a $11.25 million dollar signing bonus. What was to follow would become NFL history.

Leaf threw more interceptions than completions, hurt himself, yelled at reporters, hurt himself again, got his own teammates angry at him, got hurt some more, changed teams a few times, and eventually retired as the quarterback with the worst Passer Rating in NFL history. It is also rumored that his high school removed all his trophies from their trophy case. OUCH!

Now sure you might be saying to yourself as most people do that the Colts made the right decision, and the Chargers just got screwed, but is that true? What has Peyton Manning done lately? Personally, I feel that this is one of those situations where only time will tell.

Is Mayweather scared of Gatti?

Arturo Gatti is waiting on Floyd Mayweather, Jr. So is HBO, a lot of pay-per-view customers, and even more less well-heeled fight fans anxious to see him tested once again. What they're all waiting for is for Mayweather to prove he wants to fight the WBC super lightweight Champion (Gatti) as badly as he says he does.

For an already agreed to June 11 pay-per-view showdown to go down, all Mayweather needs to do is go down to Grand Rapids, Mich. and clear up a pending assault charge involving himself, a man named William Morris and a champagne bottle that may or may not have bounced off Morris' head with extreme prejudice.

Mayweather has repeatedly said he wants Gatti but believes the Champion, or at least his people, want no part of him. Yet Gatti agreed to a $3.5 million guarantee against an upside of the pay-per-view to accept Mayweather's challenge. Main Events does not want to go forward promoting a fight (at some cost) that might not happen. Mayweather could clear this issue up with ONE act! Thus far he has refused to do it and Gatti, for one is growing impatient,

"I'd love to fight him but we're not going to wait,'' Gatti (39-6, 30 KO) said after dominating Leija. - HBO Boxing

If this fight happens, anyone who wants to take Gatti just has let me know. I'd be more than glad to take that action!

In other fight news, Little Mac stopped Mike Tyson at 2:35 in the 1st round.

Giambi Still on 'Roids

At least he came out and... um... tried to admit that he did use 'roids. To me at least (and I'm a Sox fan), he came accross as sincerely sorry. Unlike the biggest asshole alive; the most oblivious man alive; or, the next man to appear on the Surreal Life, he is trying to make amends with fans.

But will he play for the Yanks? From the NY Post:

How Giambi answers questions today will indicate what, if any, deal he has
worked out with the Yankees regarding the $82 million left on his contract. When
the grand-jury testimony leaked, the Yankees looked into ways to void the deal
but didn't do it.
If Giambi is evasive today, it's a strong indication he
doesn't want to publicly admit steroid use because the Yankees could use that
against him if they decide to go after his money. Until now, the only evidence
is a leaked grand-jury report, which isn't a public admission. Still, it's
grand-jury testimony, so Giambi would look foolish if he were to deny it.
However, if Giambi is as open as he was in the grand jury room when he
described how he injected steroids into his stomach, it's likely he has reached
some kind of an agreement with the club that it won't look to void the contract.

Since he was not forthcoming, does that mean the Yanks and Giambi didn't reach an agreement? Or was he trying to admit he used 'roids within the bounds of the legal agreement? I dunno .

Bloody Sock goes to Cooperstown

Curt Schilling's bloody white sock is now an official part of baseball history. The Sox ace's in-laws, Don and Patsy Brewer, delivered the blood-soaked sock that he wore while winning Game 2 of the World Series to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., on Tuesday.

It was immediately added to the World Series exhibit, which already featured Schilling's cleats (as well as World Series-used items from Martinez, Lowe, Cabrera, Johnny Damon, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez) and will be on display until a 2005 champion is crowned.

There is no word yet as to the addition of A-Rod's purse to the collection.

C-town leading the way?!?

Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban's choice for defensive coordinator is clear. Romeo Crennel knows exactly who he wants at his side in Cleveland. So does Bill Belichick.
League sources familiar with the negotiations indicated that the Dolphins, Browns, and Patriots have made offers to Patriots defensive backs coach Eric Mangini. His decision is expected as early as today.
All indications are, according to sources, that Mangini's preference is to remain in New England, because of his gratitude and loyalty to Belichick, but that the Browns might be in the driver's seat because of Mangini's relationship with Crennel and an offer that far surpasses what the Patriots have offered.
Mangini also has ties in Cleveland, including a brother-in-law in Mark Shapiro, general manager of the Cleveland Indians, and choosing the Browns would reunite the families. Mangini and Crennel developed a special relationship working to solve the Patriots' secondary problems this season.
Mangini has great respect for Browns general manager Phil Savage, having worked with him in Baltimore.

Cleveland Fans Excited

Our resident Cleveland Fan can't wait for the season to start (with a 3-4 defense and without Garcia):

Romeo is already talking about how the change to the 3-4 defense will
work....and he wants to try Courtney Brown at OLB.....he talked to Phil Savage
already.....and they think Courtney will have a better chance staying healthy
for the entire year if he isn't in the trenches seeing double teams and getting
cut all the time....they think he has the physical abilities to play the role
that Suggs played in B-more and Colvin played for NE
Browns or going to be
talking to Eric Mangini this week about the D-coordinator position......and
Savage said the team will make a decision on Garcia within the next week
I'm
pumped....I think we could win 6-7 games next year...maybe 1 or 2 more if we
finally stay healthy and get some breaks to actually go our way.

Sounds Like there's a bet involved in this little proposition!
